OK, one more try. In this case, things appeared to be running normally, then I got a different blue screen.....more like one I used to see on the old XP machine. It said, and I'm paraphrasing, "Windows has been shut to to prevent (something or other)" and then went on to advise checking into anything recently installed, etc.

And it just stayed on that blue screen, I had to manually power down from there, as opposed to the full-out BSOD's where everything just died, a couple weeks ago.

This was the only file in the minidump folder.....perhaps I didn't zip it properly before, but the filesize is different this time, so maybe now something useful is there.

Thanks Ken:)

This one war probably caused by memory management. Sidebar was op at the time of the crash. This may just be a one off but you should download memtestx86 for at least 5 passes to test it.

I suspect I would be better suited looking into this in the afternoon, when I am wide awake, than I would be now.... I'm assuming Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool is the right place to get that, but I have no idea which of the builds listed there would be best suited for what I need to do.....this is something completely new to me.

Half awake at 04:00 is not the time for me to be looking into something like this....thanks again for your advice Ken :)
