Some driver issues following fresh install.

I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my Dell XPS l501x and managed to find most of the drivers, but still have a couple of annoying little issues that I would appreciate some help with if possible.

• Windows no longer tells me when my battery is nearly dead, it just dies when it's empty. Before the full restore I would be warned twice and then it would hibernate to give me a chance to find a plug.
• I still have one Unknown Device in device manager and I have no idea what it could possibly be as things generally seem to be running smoothly. Is there any way I can find out what this is?

They could be one in the same issue. Did you get your drivers from Dell ?? Anything you didn't install is subject to be the one you need. You might also try letting Windows search for the proper driver, if you haven't already.

Further, if any driver is missing you can try downloading the necessary drivers from the support website by clicking on the URL: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/xps-15

I already did BIOS - still got an unknown. No idea how to find out what it is...

Hi,

You have a device that is not being installed properly.
I would recommend booting into the Safe mode (F8), and then right click on the "Unknown device". Select "Uninstall". After that reboot your system and recheck the Device Manager.

Have you tried letting Windows search for the driver ??

Did you get your drivers from Dell ?? You can search by model, but I prefer to use the service tag when I can.

I support a whole herd of Dell boxen here and, while none of them are XPS, I usually find a device or two in device mangler with a bang next to it. If Windows can't find the driver on its own I'll install the drivers from Dell. Usually it's listed as either unknown or a serial device. Chipset drivers usually help, but don't stop there if it doesn't solve the problem. Hang with it until you get it solved, then make a note of what driver fixed it for future reference.
