Some IE9 frustrations

While I have been a loyal IE user for years I have given up on IE9 and returned to IE8 because I have just found IE9 much too unreliable. Sample issues with sites (including some major commercial sites) that do not occur with IE8 or Firefox include:

1. Scripts on websites that don't run, or hang.

2. Website section tabs that do not work.

3. Ordinary random hyperlinks that require using the control key to make them work and then when they do come up they come up under the page I am viewing rather than on top as they should. (This always happens with links that require control key use in IE9.)

4. Links to pdf documents, such as statements from financial institutions, that show the first page of the document as a blank white page instead of displaying the actual content.

And again, none of these problems occur on these same sites when I use other browsers on the same machines.

Win 9 seems to be generally well received by users.

often some issues could be solved by just going through settings and selecting what you like best (internet options for example). I have never experienced what you have, and I use IE9. check windows update for anything dealing with internet explorer and download it. make sure another program isn't interfering with it (you might find something under "manage add-ons"). IE usually has a "compatability view mode" option that might work. Are these all sites or a select few?

IE9 is the best browser i've ever used in my opinion (chrome, firefox, IE7-9). It works perfectly here for me

Not an answer to your question but I think you will find IE10 addresses a lot of the poor performance and unreliability of IE9.

You can try IE10 if you want to play with the Windows 8 Preview developer edition - available on the MS site FREE --remember it's PRE-BETA however.

I've given up on IE9 and gone back to IE8 on W7 but if you have time to try out the W8 developer edition preview then I think you will be pleasantly surprised with IE10.

I know this is a W7 and not the W8 Forum but as IE10 will be the next version of IE it's worth not abandoning IE -- especially as IE8 is reasonable and IE10 is very good indeed -- I'd suggest creating a W8 developer preview Virtual machine to try out IE10. I agree IE9 seems to have to many problems for it to be my main daily use browser -- I'm getting too old and have other things to do these days than try and mess around with poorly performing browsers !!!!

Several suggestions:

To expand on roncerr's suggestion, you might try this method to reset your IE9: Reset all Internet Options to default. Open IE9. Click Tools, Internet Options, Advanced + at the bottom of the screen go to ‘Reset Internet Explorer's settings to their default condition.’ Click the "Reset" button then click "Reset" again on the warning popup. Exit IE and then open again for the settings to take effect. (In other words, Once IE9 is installed, the computer must be rebooted twice before opening IE9.)

If that doesn't help, you might examine the method in which you originally upgraded from IE8 to IE9 --- this might have a lot to do with your current IE9 problems. Take a look at these tutorials for some guidance:

You also have the option to uninstall IE9 and then reinstall it. You may have gotten a corrupted or faulty download, which could explain the problems you've mentioned.

Eureka! Problem solved, well at least parts 3 and 4. After much trial and error I found that they all went away when I uninstalled the Google Toolbar.
