Some information on DNS 'changers" or 'resolvers'

Recently I posted a problem on a DNS changer where my favorite news site came up as the NGnix virus or some such. That was in Firefox.

Today I was listening to a Congressional hearing on internet and privacy where that or a similar topic came up. Resolvers, as it was put, can redirect DNS to an HTTP most likely Google in a search term.

Certainly Mozilla or Google which are apparently working together on this technique do not
want any interference by the user. I want that interference and I wondered if there is any discussion
on that at Seven Forums. Example: Win7 Services which number 200 and more contain some references to Mozilla maintenance . I have not inspected the list recently so someone can school me on it. WIN7 is pretty old. These days there is, according to the testimony, active manipulation of the Mozilla browser
with regard to domains and shifts to steer the user.

Anybody know more about this? I'm not using Firefox just now because of the problems. But even
a variant on it called Basilisk uses base code from Mozilla. Workarounds are more and more difficult.

Lastly in an attempt to get my book marks back after power out and disk boot failure I tried to
install old Firefox 57. I was shocked when going to the info page to see that 57 busily being upgraded to 65 without any warning or consent. I made the shift to Basilisk right away.

I use Firefox Quantum almost exclusively. auto update
Windows update everything but silverlight.

I believe Basilisk had a third box that says 'Don't bother me.'


Above in the example the wording expresses the fact that there is no off button in FFx.


I'm still asking around about it with the Basilisk gang but I'm weary of all the options but lack of

user control.
