Solved Some junction became visible

How do I hide the "My Documents" junction (and "My Pictures" etc. in "Documents" folder)? I think the four junctions became visible after I unzipped a 7-zip file containing the "My Documents" folder created in an XP machine. The junctions are now visible regardless of the "hide system files" etc. settings in explorer. The four junctions are also listed when I "dir" in cmd.exe. No other junctions are visible in either explorer or cmd.exe.

I can't see any option to hide a junction when I right-click -> Properties on it. How do I do this, i.e. get them back the way they were initially?

Hello Jruhill, welcome!

I'm not sure what you mean by "junction". Sounds like you've copied/extracted directories out of a zipfile, possibly with subdir's too. If that's the case, assuming you did not need the dir's on this machine, can't you just delete these dir's?
However, if you're unsure, then please upload a snip/picture of a explorer window of your "My Documents" with Detail settings on. We'll have a look at that.

You might check using step 3 in the tutorial below to select (dot) the Don't Show hidden files, folders, and drives box to see if that may hide them again for you.

Thanks, but your suggestions didn't help. I eventually resolved it by (in cmd.exe):

attrib -r +h +s +i /L "My Documents"

Help me out here... I don't get it yet... Why would you want that on a My Documents?
Just to not show? Or should it not have been there in the first place?

Windows 7 (and Vista I guess) changed the directory structure of Windows XP. In Windows 7, "My Documents" is merely a link (called junction actually) to the "Documents" folder. Similarly, "Documents/My Music" is a junction to the "Music" folder (under c:\Users\me\). The same goes for Pictures and Videos.

I think Windows 7 does the junction thing for compatibility reasons. It was also good for me, because when I restored my XP "My Documents" folders, my files got automatically placed in the correct Win7 folders. Well, except that 7-zip also mucked with the attributes of the junctions, making them visible. The attrib command merely restores the attributes back to what they were (the switch /L is important, otherwise the command hits the folder the junction links to.)

It isn't supposed to be hidden, but if that's what you want.....oh well.
