Some one Hacks my GMAIL

Guys

One of my friend is in Dubai

His Gmail account was used by some one in India. We found this by checking the DETAILS option in the gmail and traced the IP address to be in India in a City.

This is happening for past few days.

The city is obviously his hometown. However, his relatives or friends or anyone knew his password. Only he know it.

But, How can i trace the exact location within the City... any ideas? Or where do I have to report? to gmail?

He has even tried changing the password number of times using on screen keyboard even to 30 character password.

No 'keylogger' is found in that system too.

But still some one access his account and delete some important emails.

How do we fix this? Please help this serious problem.

Unfortunately magic exists only in Harry Potter books. If your friend has successfully changed his password to a strong one and not divulged it to anybody, it is virtually impossible for anyone to hack his account. So there are 3 possibilities. Take your pick.

1) Gmail admins are doing the hacking.

2) Your friend's account is part of a larger breakin into multiple gmail accounts, as happened once i believe.

3) Your friend is pulling a fast one on you.

It could be a tracking cookie recording passwords

The tracking cookie would be on the friend's Dubai computer. How did it reach India?

I doubt this is whats happening but ill explain what a cookie does anyhow.

A cookie is just a piece of information on your coputer logged by each website you visit. It tracks your preferences, habits, type of computer, ip address and more. Once you log onto the website that made the cookie again they can tell what you've been up to. This could be used to do bad things potentially.

If your friend has a virus/rookit/keylogger the information is being sent to India via his own computer. Once information leaves your computer, you have no control over where it goes. So even if you're visiting a site you think is safe, you may be sending information to anyone.

You can ask your friend to do a couple of things.

1) Forward all the important mails (since you said some important mails were deleted) in the Gmail account to another account (yahoo, hotmail whatever) so at least that aspect is taken care of.

2) Run a scan with Malwarebytes antimalware on this particular computer to ensure that there is no rootkit/trojan at work.

3) Ask your friend to access his gmail account for a month on ANOTHER computer and not to open it on this particular computer at all during that period. Before doing that, he should access ANOTHER computer and change his password. Then let him report after a month whether the problem has recurred.

Thank you for the replies guys.... I have already asked him to clear the cookies. But he has only access to one computer. It is an office computer.
But, none of his officials are from his hometown so that they can track from here and give him.

Even this issue looks strange for me.

I also accessed his PC via Team Viewer and checked for any Key Loggers and Spyware or Malware and found nothing.


Am really surprised and wondering on this issue......:huh:

If you have no other computers to use to change your password, you could go to a near-by free library that has a computer.

Change the password on all accounts, not just G-mail.
