Hi

I know what I'm asking doesn't qualify for Crashing or debugging but I couldn't find a perfect catergory for it. If mods think it should be removed from this section and be put to some other section then I'll be more than glad.

The problem is, there are a few pdf (I downloaded) which I'm unable to delete (either Shift+del or del to recycle bin). Whenever I try the deletion, the dialog box appears and keep on calculating time required, file size and other attributes, even for a 300kb pdf file.

I had tried the safe mode deletion i.e. getting into safe mode and trying the deletion from there, and despite that, I had also tried command prompt deletion but none of these methods provided me with sufficient results.

I've Avast antivirus Professional 5 installed on my system and it detected nothing malicious when I ran a virus check on that particular directory where those files reside.

Please tell me how can I rectify this problem? What steps must I be taking to resolve this problem.

thank you.

It was done like this with XP. Worked some of the time.

Open task manager.

Open command prompt (cmd).

In task manager/processes close explorer.exe.

Navigate with cmd to the offending file. Use del to get rid of it.

Go to task manager/application/new task. Type explorer.exe & away you go.

That's from memory. Hasn't happened in a very long time to me & with my new system I got rid of all xp tips.
