Recently, I been getting an unusual number of Win7 messages that a folder/file, etc can't be renamed/moved/whatever because something is using it. Sometimes the cause is obviously my "fault". Other times I can't determine what's holding things up. Sometimes the only thing in the taskbar is the folder containing whatever folder/file I'm working on. Sometimes closing & reopening the folder is all that's needed. Other times I've had to restart. This has just started happening so frequently.

Is there an easy/quick way to identify what is using it? Or to force release?

Try Unlocker

When you get the error right click on the file or folder and click Unlocker. It should tell you what is holding onto the item. Also you can select delete on next boot etc..

I recommend the portable version since it is not supposed to install unwanted software.
