Sometimes the computer locks up after resuming from Hibernation

Sometimes after I wake it up from hibernation the computer freezes after the resuming Windows screen in a black screen with a blinking cursor at top left. None keys work even ctr+alt+del. This screen often appears for a second before going to the desktop. After reset it wakes up fine after skipping the resume error. Does anyone know why?

Thanks

It sounds to me as if you are using a older driver for some system component, it's hard to be specific without more information. Very often it's a wifi, audio, or usb device.

Personally I advise against using hibernation if you can at all avoid it, it's always been more problematic than sleep.

Thanks.

All my drivers are up to date, I am using a Nvidia Beta drivers if this is relevant.

Event Viewer does not have any errors or warnings logged except Disk error when I plug USB drives and DNS errors

I use hibernation overnight because my computer takes too long to boot if shut down and I like to unplug it when not in use, I use sleep only when I leave for a while (< 3h).

PS: This problem happened recently. I've got two freezes in that black screen with flashing cursor for the time being. I'll check if it is a recently installed program.

Hi derek

There were quite a number of Master Browser going into stop states and run states during and after hibernation.....

Could you run the below the cmd prompt

Powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

Al right

from the looks above you have 2 devices that has wake on lan setting on their drivesr (the Atheros and Wireless Mouse)... try disabling them from Device manager > go to the network interface / go to Human Interface device > go to Advance properties > uncheck all of them...

or you could use

1. Powercfg -devicedisablewake "Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)"

2. Powercfg -devicedisablewake "HID-compliant mouse (003)"

Check the Powercfg -devicequery wake_armed again to see it is disabled....

Reboot your system.... and check and see... if when waking up with hibernation you have blank screen....

if the above doesnt resolve it.....

You can go ahead and install the default drivers for your graphics card... and check and see if that resolves the problem..I coundn't find the beta drivers for the Nvidia graphics card from the Nvidia site ????? where did you get those ???

I've disabled it now. I will re-post if another freeze happens after trying another Nvidia driver. If not, in a cople of days I will consider it solved :).

The Nvidia driver I am using is 304.79 Beta from here, because the stable one (??) caused me some headaches with the gorgeous "display driver has stopped" and some BSODs some time ago. With this, that never happened for now.
