Sonar Studio install on RC 64

Hi all. I own a Sonar power studio DAW. So far Cakewalk does not seem to have Windows 7 support. There is\was a hack to install the external USB card in the 7 beta 64 but it does not appear to work. The software (Studio 6.2) installs fine but when it prompts one to plug in the external SC the disc does not recognize the OS. Not shocking as it was designed for Vista 64. Still, considering how flawless the RC is & that it has the benefit of the Vista database/registry I have to think there is a work around. I would really appreciate some help on this.

I know. It's eary how these guys were always so ahead of their time.
C'mon fellow musicians. We need to show the world / www.sevenforums.com that we do have answers on the PC side of things and will not take progress lying down!
In all seriousness, please let me know if you have ANY cakewalk software working on this build.

I have nothing to add here unfortunately. I do use Sonar Producer and have it working lovely on Windows 7 64bit, but I don't own Cakewalk hardware. I can't get my Digi 002 to work on even 32bit, but I am not surprised considering their track record with compatibility.

Have you tried manually installing the drivers in Device Manager without running a setup program? If the setup is cockblocking you, theres always the brute force method. I wish I had some Sonar Studio hardware to tell you definitively if it was possible or not. My recommendation is if you can't get 64bit to work, try the 32bit build. It's very possible it just wont work yet, but I got my Delta 1010 to work and that's what I'm running with Sonar and everything else now.

I do know for a fact that the Cakewalk community is not even close to being in the Windows 7 boat. I try to be vocal and push people to try it and let everyone know but there are so many people on the official forums that are basically *****s and won't even consider posting something constructive about 7. Most of the posts you see from "Community" members are something like "Why don't you try a working OS? Cakewalk does not support buggy pre-production OS's". And Cakewalk staff won't even post in these threads. I feel your pain guys. That community has gone way downhill over the years. i will make an effort to push people over here if I see anything Windows 7 related.

FYI, the only pro audio software I have had any trouble with is outdated, uncurrent versions of oddball plugins.

Cakewalk successes:

Sonar Producer 8: 64bit and 32bit have both tested positive on my PC's, but I am currently running 32bit for Rewire compatibility. Everything seems to work, all DX and VST plugs work no problems.
Cakewalk Rapture 1.X: Installed both 1.0 and the 1.5 update, no issues, love the synth
Cakewalk Studio Instruments demo: Works. Don't think it's special enough to buy.
Cakewalk Beatscape: Not sure on the version, whatever comes in the 8 Producer bundle.
Cakewalk Dimension Pro: Works, dont really use it personally, but haven't seen issues when I patch it in.

I can go on and on with everything pro audio, but I don't want to wall of text you guys when you only asked for Cakewalk. I have only had problems with a few 3rd party things I can live without. As long as Ableton Live and Sonar work, I'm a very happy man.

Have you and /or are you trying any firewire external SC' that work with Win 7 and Sonar Studio 6.2
BTW-I could not agree with your take on Soanar's lack of compatability complacency. Very frustrating. Have you tried the new Audigy? Ithink it has som good feature sets (given that it is free) so I am thinking about trying to import the loops and whatnot from sps 6.2,grab an external sc that works and put together a hibryd Daw.

I agree entirely. Noway am I losing 2 gigs of ram amongst other 64 bit benefits. I am trying out the Sonar sps 6.2 daw in xp mode this week. I'll let you know how that goes. In theory it should work but...the latency issue could be huge.

I am a fellow musician who also uses the Dell 1640. I have installed Sonar 7 but have not had much luck using it.

My idea was to use the laptop (instead of my dedicated DAW) for composing rhythm tracks between classes or while travelling. I thought the laptop's internal sound card might be okay for that. However, things don't work very smoothely. I have lots of experience with sound cards and cake (almost every version since 2.0).

I am wondering if you have used Sonar with the internal sound from the 1640 and if it worked. Please, only answer if you are so inclined -- I don't want to be a pest! But I'd like to figure out whether I should abandon the idea of using the laptop for studio tasks.

Hey, guys... I also run Sonar. The only issues were booboo plug-ins that really weren't important in the first place. The on problem I AM having, however, is that my Phonic Helix Board 24 Firewire MKII doesn't work. It recognizes it in the device manager, but it has the exclamation point beside it. I'm assuming this is a driver error, but I was wondering if maybe there was a work around.

just installed cake walk home studio 2 in New to me Dell 810 laptop -- can not get playback sound - getting message on midi input and going to option>audio> there is no input driver listing therefore can't select input. Hoping to find someone who has resolved this problem as I am on several days of searching for solution -- thanks to anyone who can help
