I am thinking of doing a clean installation of Windows 7 Professional on my new Sony Laptop. It has Home Premium 64 bit at present, for one reason to get rid of trialware and Sony utilities. However I would like to keep the Sony recovery folder and still have access to it for drivers etc, or even if I wanted to recover to factory settings. Any advice.

Do you have access to a flash drive large enough to put the folder on?

1) Just make recovery dvd's using the Sony recovery center software, you can restore to factory default any time using those.

2) You can make an image of your current install using macrium or acronis or whatever imaging program you prefer and save it to an external drive, if required you can restore the current install from that image in the future. The image will include all installed drivers and apps.

3) Theres technically no need to wipe the recovery partition. Let it remain, while you go ahead with a clean install.
