Sony Optiarc 7261s can't read disks

When I tried to burn images to disk earlier today using FreeStudio Free Disk Burner my DVD RW drive started making strange pulsating griding noises. Now it can't read disks. It can open and close by pressing the button and by via windows too but can't read or write any more.

Is it dead or is there a fix to this?

Please help.

Thanks for the info. I tried that but no luck.

I've just taken the drive out and opened it up and it seems the motor has gone. It rattles as I move it.

Now I need to see if I can get a replacement motor cheaply somewhere.

DVD-RW are cheap these days so you could just buy a new one but on the other hand it could still be repaired, good luck QuackPot hope it works out =)
