Solved Sony Vaio model VPCEA45FG Restore Disk 2 not reading

Hello all, i was resetting my Sony vaio model VPCEA45FG to factory conditions using the 3 DVD which i had created using the recovery options. For some reasons DVD 2 is not reading :shock: while doing the factory restore, can somebody help please . Last option is to give the laptop to the service station which i am not ok with. If this DVD 2 contents is available (for Sony vaio model VPCEA45FG) on any URL please provide the same.

I have a Vaio VPCEB47GM. One of the problems with burning data to disk is if one of the disks fails to burn properly the rest of the disks become useless. I'm not aware of being able to get an individual disk because the disks are tied to the specific computer that created them. It may be possible to order a complete set of recovery disks from Sony but that could take weeks and you'd have to find out the procedure/price from Sony India.

Instead of using the disks see if you can access the hidden recovery partition instead.

If your model Vaio has the ASSIST button (upper right on keyboard)
1. Turn computer off and then press the ASSIST button. Vaio Care Rescue should launch.
2. Click Start Recovery Wizard > Tools > Start Advanced Recovery Wizard
3. Follow on-screen instructions

If your Vaio does not have the ASSIST button (or if Vaio Care Rescue - above - does not launch)
1. Turn computer on and immediately start clicking the F10 key (top row of keyboard.) Keep clicking about one click per second until you see the Edit Boot Options screen, then click Enter.
2. Select Start Recovery Wizard > Tools > Start Advanced Recovery Wizard
3. Follow on-screen instructions

Thank you Marsmimar. I have an Assist button on my Vaio. Tried both options (Assist and F10), started the recovery. It shows few steps like preparing for recovery, formatting. While at 6% it shows an "Error 320" and does shows a message to reboot and restart the same operation. Tried this couple of times and runs in loop. Any help here is greatly appreciated. BTW earlier when i ran the DVD and went through the same process it had crossed 22% and that's when the Disk 2 was not reading. Wanted to let you know on this as well.
Might need to check the DVD online.

Since it doesn't seem that you can access the hidden recovery partition with the Assist button or F10, it raises the possibility that the hard drive might have been damaged in some way. One of the Forum experts prepared a couple of troubleshooting tutorials that also include information about hardware diagnostic checks. If these tutorials point towards a hardware failure you may have no choice but to take it in to Sony for servicing. Is it still under warranty by any chance?

If the hardware is functioning properly, he also prepared a tutorial on how to do a clean install to eliminate all the factory bloatware and get a much better performing machine. (I used this technique and my Vaio's performance increased tremendously.)

How to order Sony Recovery disks:
1.Go to http://servicesales.sel.sony.com.
2.Enter your computer's model number (for example, PCV-XXXX), and click List Parts and accessories.
3.Follow the online instructions to order the Recovery Media Kit.
If you are not able to access the Sony Direct Accessories and Parts Center Web site, contact a customer service representative at 1-800-488-7669.

If Recovery failed using the disks then you can try Startup Repair from booted DVD (provided in both tutorials) or Repair CD, but there's likely nothing to fix except a half-reinstalled OS. This is why its best to always run Recovery from the HD partition saving the disks as the backup method.

Your options now are to order Recovery Disks from Sony, or get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 without the factory bloatware which throttles Win7.

Thank you all for the support. I will order the DVD's online . Let me get the laptop back to factory condition using the DVD's meanwhile i can use my other vaio, an older one :huh: . Once again thank you.

While you wait you can always try the Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to see how much better your PC runs with Win7 in its native state unthrottled by all the factory bloatware and duplicate utilties.

Most tech enthusiasts won't run the factory install but prefer the clean install.

If you end up preferring it then you can keep the disks for backup, but more likely you'll want to save a Win7 backup image of your superior clean reinstall.
