Sony Vaio PCV-C42L Drivers

I replaced a power supply in one of these desktops today, and at the moment it's running Windows XP Home Edition (with a COA sticker on the back of the unit). The processor is a Pent-4 @ 3Ghz, at least 2GB of RAM (DDR or higher), SATA HDD (not sure of size), onboard video/audio, along with ethernet.

Does anyone know if this system has drivers which will work under Windows 7 (Home Premium or Professional). It would appear that on a basic check it has the necessary hardware to run Windows 7.

Any help would be welcome...

Highest drivers I found on sony's site were for win vista.
To be honest unless you have a dire specific reason for switching I would just stick with xp on that thing.

What does the person do by April of 2014 when XP support ends . If there is nothing unusual about the ethernet, video, etc. Windows 7 install should be able to find everything and if not, i'm sure individual pieces (audio, video, ethernet, SMBus, can be found in various locations).

The concept of throwing something out because it isn't state of the art makes little or no sense. The system might only have a Pentium-4 single core processor @ 3Ghz and 2GB of ram, but that's more than enuf to run Windows 7 and perhaps extend the life of the system as much as another 6 or more years.

Of course, with prices on desktops coming below 400 these days, might make sense just to go that route also.

...and let's be honest win xp support ended 2 years ago...

Well, given that MS isn't selling XP licenses anymore (I can't find it retail or via resellers anywhere),
I'd have to say you are correct. I believe that MS is waiting for 2014 to arrive to close the books on
the OS which has been supported by MS longer than any previous OS.

By mid-2014, I'm sure Windows 7 and 8 will be the dominant OS for home and business.

That is the model for these things, releasing ever newer versions that everyone just has to have to even function and profit. Run it dry release the next big thing. ...yeah I'm in that loop somewhere but the alternatives aren't cutting it for me.
