Hi,

I installed Windows 7 (64-Bit) on my Sony Vaio laptop (VGN-FW11E) yesterday coming from Vista (32-Bit). Everything is running ok but i have one problem. On Vista i used to scroll up and down using my touchpad however on Windows 7, that function seems to have disabled. On Vista there also was a touchpad setting where i could set my touchpad functions, but which i can no longer find on Windows 7.

When i installed Windows 7, i understand that i cannot carry over all the sony vaio programs onto Windows 7 (because my laptop is too old aparently) but is there anyway to adjust my touchpad setting? I have always used the touchpad scroll function and it is kind of annoying not having it.

Thanks

If you have a Synaptics touchpad you could try the drivers offered here:
Drivers | Synaptics

They work fine on my VAIO SR290 notebook. Vertical and horizontal scrolling fully functional.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the above drivers but the exact same problem still exists. Previously on my vista i had a touchpad setting where i could go back and forth on webpages using the horizontal movement on the touchpad and scrolling up and down using the right side of the touchpad.

I can't seem to find that settings now and it's not in the mouse settings either. Just for confirmation, all of my sony vaio programs are not on my Windows 7, so i am not sure whether has got to do with anything has it?

It looks like you have an Alps touchpad (according to info at the Sony U.K. site) so that's why the Synaptic driver didn't help. Try searching SevenForums and/or the web for an Alps Windows 7 driver?

Best of luck!

The original Vista drivers from Sony Vaio website also work OK for Windows 7.
Restored full functionality to my Vaio touchpad (ALPS model).

I have a similar problem with a Vaio VGN-NR430E/L, except I want to disable the touchpad because I prefer to use a mouse and it is very annoying when I try to type and inadvertently hit the touchpad. If touched it moves the cursor and changes the point of typing and it is Very annoying. I have no way of disabling it since doing the clean install of Win7. Before, I use to disable it using the Vaio Control Panel and there was no problem, but that option is no longe available now. I tried the Vaio esupport site but found nothing later than Vista support, and that would not work when installed. Can you tell me if the Alps touchpad driver for Win7 allows you to disable the trackpad or anything else I might try?
TIA
Chasoscar

Welcome to seven forum chasoscar: I would think their should be something in device manager under pointing or input devices you could disable. I don't have a Viao so not sure. You also could copy and paste a shot of your device manger with input or pointing devices expanded so we might see if it is possible. Thanks Fabe

I'm interested in this as well since I just got a Vaio and am contemplating a fresh Win7 install myself.

Nearest I can tell, there are no direct hotkeys to disable the touchpad and the driver does not automatically disable it when a mouse is connected (unacceptable on a modern laptop, IMO)

The only way to disable it totally is through the Vaio Control Center software. It should be available for download from Sony's website. You just might have to get it from the page of a model that comes with Windows 7 (and, thus, has software designed for it)

My system is 64-bit and a different model than yours, but I don't really think that should matter for software too much. The file you're looking for is called Sony® Notebook Utilities (Note that it also requires you to download the Sony® Shared Library)

This seems like a lot of hassle to go through for something that should be a button-press away, but I can't think of any other way to do it. Let me know if the file works for you.

Problem with Alps Touchpad Scrolling Capabilities

I am also having problems with the scrolling capabilities on my Alps Touchpad.
I recently did a clean install from Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The touchpad was originally listed as PS2 device but I installed a Alps driver for 64 bit systems so now it is registering correctly but I still have no scrolling function.

I tried the solution offered here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...f-a1235aa7c4f0 but it appears to be for 32-bit system and also did not restore scroll function.

I also tried installing the original drivers in compatibility mode without success.

Any ideas? I'm fresh out.
Other than buying a USB mouse, I can only think to revert back to 32 bit. :(

Oh, sorry, I have a VGN-FZ4000
Any help much appreciated!

Hi KingKhan786. I have the same problem with my Sony Vaio VGN-CS36GJ laptop. I tried installing the Synaptics Pointing Driver but this just disables my touchpad. How were you able to resolve this?
