Hi, my first post here

As the title says, im having problems with my VGN-FZ4000 webcam. I`ve read almost every post on the web, some on this forum, downloaded tons of drivers, but nothing seems to work.

Right now, in the device manager, the webcam is shown as "Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC6". With this driver i managed to lit the little green led next to the cam, but the cam shows just a black screen. (tested with "MSN Live 2009" and "ArcSoft Webcam Companion" - downloaded from Sony eSupport)

Again, i have a VGN-FZ4000 running Win7 Ultimate 32bits.

I beg for any help. Its been almost 2 months already im trying to make this little !@#$ to work.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum,

So is there a notification symbol next to "Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC6"

in device manager?

I'm guessing this vaio originally came with Vista? did the webcam work before?

Here's some possible help listed here,

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/searchEntry.do?locale=LA_eng_US&usemicrosite=true&region=UMRE_UNITEDSTATES_2_5&sonyregion=US&searchString=webcam%20software&product=SG_VGNFZ4000_5_1026&sonytemplate=1&sonymodel=VGNFZ4000

Post back if you have any questions or need more help.

Thanks for the help... ive tried the tips found on that link u posted, but no luck. Maybe the driver that came with my Win7 is corrupted or something.
In device manager there is no notification at all... it says the device works fine.
The previous owner said the webcam worked fine with Vista.

Any other suggestions?

Im about to give up...

Thanks again

Do you have the system software for that as well, as mentioned here,

View Document 0 136568183

Seems to me there should be an application to control the settings,

Is there anything listed in your programs?

It also says that it can only be used by one application at a time so you could

check to make sure it's not in use by something else.

Probably couldn't hurt to uninstall your old driver and reinstall a fresh one

just to be sure.

Hopefully someone who is more familiar with this issue can come along

and enlighten us, until then we'll keep trying what we can.

I`ve downloaded both softwares available on Sony eSupport site. Same result... the green led lights, but the screen stays black. I`ve tried to run 2 different programs at the same time using the webcam, just to be sure, and i obviously recevied the message saying the webcam was already in use by another software.

Reinstalling the driver didnt worked too... did that about 300 times already :)

Sony doesnt provide drivers for Win7. All they say is Win7 come already with the necessary drivers.

My guess right now is that something else may be messed up, like chipset drivers, or something similar. Device manager shows 2 items with a notification icon: "Unkown Device" (ID: ACPI\SNY5001 *SNY5001) (read somewhere on the web that this is a device for the upper keys like volume, stop, etc...) and "Mass Storage Controller" (guess its the SD card reader, but i dont care about it right now).

Im counting on you guys! help!!

Everything on this page is for windows 7,

Sony eSupport - VGN-FZ4000 - Software Updates & Drivers

It sounds like this ID: ACPI\SNY5001 *SNY5001 is the function keys.

Do you have all your updates via windows update?

Have you got this installed?

Sony eSupport - VGN-FZ4000 - Software Updates & Drivers

Also what about the "VAIO Camera Capture Utility software" ,

did you see if that was on your system?

How about some of those other questions, windows update,

VAIO Camera Capture Utility software, any answers on those?

Keep us posted.

Welcome to Seven forums.

As a last resort you can als go to device manager>click on the device>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id> Copy and paste the hardware ID string and we can use it to lok for a suitable 64bit driver.
Thanks. Fabe
