Hello there, I am new to this forum. I use a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ491N laptop that I just recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on. However, since updating, my touch pad no longer scrolls. I went to the Sony manufacture site to download the Alps Pointing Device Driver, but it is only for Vista and is not compatible when I try to install it. Has anyone else had this trouble or does anyone know a solution?

Thanks

To users of the Alps Pointing-device driver (version 6 or earlier) for Windows® 2000/XP:

Precautions Regarding Upgrade from Windows® 2000/XP to Windows® 7

Please note that the Alps driver (version 6 or earlier) for Windows® 2000/XP does not compatible with Windows® 7.
(In certain situations where "Install Windows Vista" or "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" is being carried out, the Alps Touch Pad Utility may be displayed as a Windows® 2000/XP device driver which does not compatible with Windows® 7).
Accordingly, we would ask that you refer to the following Remedial Measures and hope that you will continue to use our pointing devices in the future.

- Relevant Drivers
Alps Pointing-device driver (version 6 or earlier) for Windows® 2000/XP
- Remedial Measures
Update to a driver version which supports Windows® 7 (i.e.: version 7 or later)
Before installing Windows® 7, please uninstall the Alps Pointing-device driver (version 6 or earlier) for Windows® 2000/XP. And then install Windows® 7 and then the Alps Pointing-device driver (version 7 or later). Note that Version 7 and later versions provide the same functions as Version 6 or earlier for Windows® 2000/XP. To obtain an appropriate driver, please either download a driver from the homepage of the manufacturer of your current notebook computer or contact the manufacturer directly for advice. If a driver cannot be obtained in either of these ways, please use the PS/2 mouse driver which is standard for your OS (See below).
*Please note that we supply device drivers only to original equipment manufacturers.

Replacement with the OS standard PS/2 mouse driver
The Alps Pointing-device will continue to operate normally even if the corresponding driver is replaced with the PS/2 mouse driver standard for your OS (specifically, the Alps Pointing-device will operate in the same manner as a two button mouse). To replace the pointing device driver in this way, simply carry out Windows® 7 Installation as normal: Replacement of the current driver with the OS standard mouse driver will be carried out automatically.

Please run the Windows Upgrade Advisor to see what compatibility issues are thrown up.

Quote: WARNING: If the Microsoft® Windows® 7 Upgrade Advisor states that your computer is NOT COMPATIBLE, it is strongly recommended that you DO NOT install the Windows® 7® operating system.

That said, have you tried installing the driver in compatibility mode for Windows Vista?

In my research into the problem, I read that that method did not work for that device. That is why I looked further and found the two pieces of information I posted above.

Compatibility does not work reference (there are also some solutions in this post that the OP could try):

Driver (Sony Vaio VGN-FW 250J Laptop)

ALMOST SOLVED: driver (Sony Vaio VGN-FW 250J Laptop)
UGH:
Updates helped a bit.
But still have a prob with Selecting-Text.
When I select Text
holding down leftMouseButton and dragging finger across touchPad,
then letting go of leftMouseButton,
the drag is still in effect, mouse/touchpad won't let go
until I do a double leftMouseButton-click somewhere.

Actually, anywhere I 'leftMouseButton-click and drag' with touchPad
(ie., leftMouseButton-click & Drag on scrollBars),
the Drag won't let go.

Pls, Where can I find Driver updates ?

Current Drivers:
