Specs:

Windows 7 32-bit
MB Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 mobo (nvidia/AMD compatible)
Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1.

I've tried numerous approaches to this so far. I tried the drivers on creative's site (Creative Worldwide Support > Audigy LS (SE)) which just will not work. I also found a user-created driver for the product on the forums, which didn't work either. I even went ahead and installed the drivers for on-board audio from gigabyte which didn't fix the problem either.

Windows tells me that the driver was not successfully installed, I get no more info about that. I've also tried letting Windows locate and install the driver for me - doesn't work either.

Sound was working perfectly with XP - is this just a driver issue that I'll have to wait out? Or is there a magical fix I haven't discovered yet?

I hear people talking about Daniel K's drivers. Search that and give it a try.

The ones "thefabe" is suggesting are the ones I had to go with. Been using them since the Public Beta without any problems.

Thanks for the suggestions but I tried those too and couldn't get them to work. I think my problem might be that Windows keeps trying to install the drivers for me and thus conflicts? I've turned off both update and checked "never install windows drivers from update" which hasn't stopped windows from trying...is there any way to absolutely prevent Windows from installing a driver? Because I'm now getting a similar problem when installing my printer.

okay - so none of that worked unfortunately. The drivers are installing but not recognizing that my sound card even exists - I also just changed it to a different PCI slot (still didn't work).

So! A. is there a way to check and see if the card is getting power?
B. any way for me to stop Windows from installing drivers period?

Yes, I'm running 32-bit though and have installed the Windows supplied drivers, and tried different ones - none have worked.

I also installed XP on another HDD, tried it with this computer, and the sound card definitely functions. So it's powered and works, just not with 7.

Their is a driver from KX that some people are using. link kX Project -- Downloads page On this page http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/list.html their is a list of doc's,issues, change logs, bugs and forums as well as screenshots. That can be helpful. The print is rather small but it is all listed at the top of the page under project. Unfortunately I don't see any tutorials for installing in compatibility mode if needed so here is another link. Fabe http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

Srilina have you tried to install the driver manually? Post #10 here,

http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/21804-creative-sound-cards.html

has a link on how to do that, as well as where to point the update wizard.

I also saw your posts on the Creative forums and had a look at the INF for the P17X Support Pack and your card is already in it,

; SB Audigy
%CTAudio_Device1.Dev.ntx86%=CTAudio_Device1,PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS_100A1102
%CTAudio_Device1.Dev.ntx86%=CTAudio_Device1,PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS_10111102
%CTAudio_Device1.Dev.ntx86%=CTAudio_Device1,PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS_A0161458
%CTAudio_Device1.Dev.ntx86%=CTAudio_Device1,PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS_10091462

so there is something else stopping it from installing. Before trying the manual install, it would be a good idea to uninstall everything you can find relating to Creative from programs and features, as well as use the uninstall driver option for the card (assuming it is showing) in Device Manager.

@ thefabe, the KX drivers are OK if you have a real Audigy (any Audigy that isn't the SE/DE/LS/Value variant), but they won't work with the OP's Audigy SE.

Stormy - thanks so much for the link! I tried installing it manually but was unable to point specifically to P17.INF - trying to install from the driver subfolder also failed (I uninstalled all Creative programs, and deleted as many system files under Windows related to the drivers as possible beforehand - I couldn't delete corresponding files under system32\driver, or several of the dlls)

Is this a case where I should just get a new soundcard...? Or perhaps is the problem with Windows trying to automatically install drivers for me?

If it is of further use, I'll occasionally get "Microsoft Trusted Audio Drivers" under sound, video etc in DM (although it also isn't working) and if I uninstall both that and SB Audigy, Windows will occasionally install a similarly faulty "multimedia" driver - under an "unknown multimedia" heading.
