Hey everyone - I have a lot of experience in the IT field but this has be stumped. My fiance has a Toshiba Satelite A215 S4747 notebook with Realtek High Definition Audio. As far as I know, it was working fine in Vista. I decided to install Windows 7 Pro 64-bit to take advantage of the proc and 4 GB of memory. However, after she puts the laptop to sleep, the sound is disabled. In fact, the sound card disappears from the Device Manager all together.

I've tried the the latest drivers from Toshiba's site (which were Vista 64-bit), I've tried uninstalling the drivers and using the Microsoft drivers, and I've also tried the latest R2.40 drivers on Realtek's website. They all give the same behavior.

Any other ideas to try? It's very annoying to have to restart every time you put the PC to sleep to get sound.

Welcome!

Have you tried updating your chipset drivers? Seeing as she has onboard sound, this might be the solution.

Hope this helps,

Sorry for taking so long to respond, I've been having some health issues.

I had mistakenly said it's an Acer Travelmate, that was another system I was working on. The problem laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A215 S4747. I downloaded the newest Chipset drivers from Toshiba, but when I go to install it says that they are not compatible with my system. The driver states they are for Windows 7 32/64 so I don't understand why I'm getting errors. So I'm at a dead end once again.

In Control Panel > Sounds it states that "No audio device is installed." Until I restart, and then the Realtek device is selected as default.

I downloaded the chipset drivers again and ran them. It says "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this software." I was thinking about going to 32-bit, but if that doesn't work then I will have burned the activations on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7.

Be sure to download the Vista x64 one and right click > Properties. Compatibility tab. Put the driver install under Vista SP1 compatibility mode and restart install.

Choose Windows 7 (64-bits) in the list and it's the last driver on the first page...

I can't believe I didn't realize this before... the download on Toshiba's website is for an Intel chipset. It has an AMD processor. No wonder it wouldn't install! Thanks a lot Toshiba

Now I'm hunting for AMD M690V chipset drivers. The only thing I can find on AMD's website points me to graphic card drivers.

Toshiba released a BIOS update 2.30 which fixed the issue. It can be found here:
