Hi all I have a ASUS DGX 5.1 sound card. When I play music or play any game I get the same.
The music or games I play sounds if they are underwater in a echoey tunnel wind tunnel.
I have tried 2 different sound cards and headphones but get the same.
I have updated all the drivers on my system.
Any ideas please?

Thank you

If I understand correctly, you have installed two different model sound cards and different headphones, but still hear the same underwater or echo-like DSP sounding effect through both or all devices.

Is that correct?

If so, I need to know how specifically you have tried all of these.

Have you...

  • Tested two different model/brand sound cards headphone jacks with two different headset/earphones?
  • Reinstalled all audio drivers in between tests?
  • Alternated (i.e. disabled, enabled at individual times) between ports/"devices" in Windows' Playback Devices menu?
  • Disabled the on-board audio to ensure that you are not using it predominately?
Please explain your process.

It is possible that you have something taking control of your audio to generate these sorts of sound effects prior to playback. This is called a DSP.

Sorry, yes I have installed two different sound cards. First one was a Audigy SoundBlaster. I used 2 separate headphones.
I then Uninstalled the SoundBlaster card, removed any files from the computer restarted the system and then installed the ASUS DGX 5.1. Again updated the drivers. I used 2 different headphones and a speaker.
I also ran msconfig and unticked all the start up programs
But the same problem.
Not to sure how you disable the onboard audio though.
What is DSP?

Are they phono headphones? Did you plug them in to the front of the computer, or the back of the computer? Or more specifically, in to the sound cards' phono jacks?

Well this is particularly interesting.
If you installed a completely different sound card and still had the exact same issue then there has to be some sort of third party software causing this.
Please open Device Manager and expand Sound, video and game controllers, then take a screenshot by holding Alt+Print Screen on the keyboard and pasting it in to a program or compatible website to attach it here or link it offsite.

To open Device Manager:

  • Hold the Windows Key and the letter R at the same time.
  • In the newly opened small window, type mmc devmgmt.msc in to the text field.
  • Hit OK.

I don't know if I will be here on Sunday but once others have seen what audio devices you have they should be able to help you troubleshoot further.
