Dont know the specs that you guys might want to hear about but heres my best guess. I have a p6860Fx gateway laptop, i upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista a few months. At first i lost sound whenever i put the computer in sleep or hibernate mode. then i just said screw it and Dl'd the last known sound driver for my comp which was only the 32 bit IDT sound driver.

that fixed the issue but now whenever i put whatever im watching into full screen mode, i get this static sound and it seems like that video is lagging along with the sound. i did however installed the latest driver for my Nvidia 8800 graphics card also.

anyone got a answer to this, i tried re installing the drivers but that was no go. help please

Generally, when video is affecting the sound it's the Video hardware or drivers. It could also be a memory (or lack of) issue since most laptop video "cards" use RAM for all or part of their memory.

One thing (or two) to try - uninstall the sound in the Device Manager (do not uninstall the drivers) then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This "refresh" can fix flakey problems and sometimes will also put the sound on a different IRQ (Interrupt) and fix flakey problems. You can try the same thing with the video and see if makes a difference.
