Sound on google chrome and internet explorer only works on youtube

my sound just randomly stopped working on google chrome and internet explorer it only works for certain things like youtube but doesn't work for facebook or other video sites.

just before it happened i had been visiting some proxy sites could this have damaged it? perhaps a virus of some sort? but when i do my AVG scan it can't pick up anything so i'm not sure

If this is a recent problem, try the System Restore and see if that fixes it. Restore the PC back to a date when it worked OK. If that doesn't fix it, System Restore has an "undo" function to undo the restore.

System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails.

thanks for the help, but my computer seems to think it doesn't have a saved previous restore point.
