Sound problem driving me crazy

ok,hello everyone I'm new here to 7forums and this is my first post...what am i doing here?

well..I seek assistance

I've had a sound problem for quite some time and I can't seem to solve it since I know virtually nothing about computers

so please if would be kind emough to help me here's my problem:

after I've done some searching trying to install an audio driver
I got in Windows Help and Support and it tells me this:

• To make sure that your computer has a sound card
  
  
  1. Click to open Device Manager.*
     
     If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Double-click Sound, video and game controllers to expand that category. If a sound card is listed, you have one installed. If no sound card is listed, check the information that came with your computer to see if there's supposed to be a sound card installed. If there should be a sound card installed, you'll need to install one. See Install or remove a sound card.
     Note
     
     
     • If you think you have a sound card installed but you don’t see it under Sound, video and game controllers, double-click Other devices to check for any audio devices listed there.
  To make sure that your sound card is working properly
  
  
  1. If there's a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card, there might be a problem.
     
  2. Click to open Device Manager.*
     
     If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Double-click Sound, video and game controllers to expand that category, right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the General tab, and then check the Device status box to identify problems with the sound card.
     If there's a problem, you might need a new driver for your sound card. For more information, see Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly.

If these actions don’t solve the problem, there might be a problem with the hardware for your sound card, although in most cases sound problems are caused by missing or out-of-date drivers, or a problem with your speakers. If you suspect you have a hardware problem, contact the manufacturer of your computer or sound card.






now when i go to Device Manager i can't find Sound, video and game controllers so i click on Show Hidden Devices in the View tab and now I can find several Sound Devices:1.File as Volume driver
2.High Definition Audio Controller
3.Volume manager
when i double-click 1. and 3. it says the the device is working properly but the High Definition Audio Controller has a little yellow triangle with an exclamation sign on it(possibly atention sign) and when i click on it,it says:Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) at Device Status ...and when i try to update it nothing happens.....

P.S, I can't hear anything at all and my macbook has some volume control buttons when i press them nothing happens and it shows me a 'Denied" sign
WHat do i do??I'm desperate i can't hear my Tribes:vengeance voice chat!!!

What exactly happens when you click "Update Driver" on the High Definition Audio Controller in Device Manager.

when offline updating nothing happens and when online updating...takes too long probably my internet connection but i doubt it...right now i am forced to use a slow modem..and by slow I mean really slow...took me 1:40 hours to download 64 MB

So it's never actually finished the online updating process then? Cause that is what I think you would need to do. If your connection isn't fast enough to search for and download the driver in a reasonable period of time...

Have you had this sound issue since upgrading to Windows 7, or did it just pop up out of nowhere?

Are you a Mac owner...?

I see you mentioned Macbook near the end of your post.
If so, are you using Bootcamp? If so the drivers should come with Bootcamp.

If not, you will need to download the drivers no matter ow long it takes.

yes I'm a mac owner and my C: is named bootcamp:BOOTCAMP(C):
and in program files i have a folder named Boot Camp and in it i have an application called Boot Camp and another folder called Boot Camp.resources

The Bootcamp drivers for Windows should be on one of the DVD install disks.

Search under bootcamp.

The other option is a long download of the most recent drivers for the audio hardware.

This is actually an Apple support issue as their Windows drivers are known for not being too great. If you go to the Bootcamp section of Apple support you might find more specific help with this problem.
