sound suddenly not working

i have a sound card, sb audigy. suddenly it is not working. my computer was accidentally unplugged when on.

in control panel, it says the SB Audigy sound card cannot start, (code 10). tried to update drivers to no avail.

any ideas? this happened once before too. i think it just started working again back then after multiple re-boots.

I had a similar problem recently.
I checked Services and found it was set to Stop.

Click Start > Type in Search "msconfig" > Go to Services tab > Check if Windows Audio is checked > Apply Then restart

I don't recall at the moment, but see if yours is.

So your on-board audio chip is disabled? USB sound card or PCI Express?

it's pci express; i unplugged and plugged it in. i don't recall how i disabled the on-board chip long ago.

Check in Control Panel > Sound.
See if it is set as default.

Is it possible you have the sound set to mute?
Go into Sounds and do a test.

i wish i was that dumb. no mute. volume set hi. the test of course makes no sound, tho the volume meter goes up and down.

that's fine too. even tried the speakers on a back-up computer and they worked there, same settings on speakers.
