I don't know exactly what that means, but I've installed it on 3 systems so far.

Yeah, that eBay link for the 6700 is way overpriced and to make matters worse, not only is the PSU rated at only 300 watts, but it's probably a POS PSU and if it goes out it can muck the whole computer up. Without going back to my last post, I believe I did state that the PSU needs to be a good, reputable brand and gave some manufactures to chose from.

You are better off picking parts and having it built. I'm really not in the mood right now to do all the research and then trying to find out if your legacy software of Photoshop and what not is even mult thread capable to take advantage of extra cores and threads in a CPU.

What's your budget anyway? That would be a start.

$2K is no problem. Picking parts is a problem, as is assembling the unit and, yes, you did say that the power supply could be a concern in your earlier message, but I have no way to evaluate that.

I've querried a couple of potential builders, but haven't heard from them as to the status of my request. Others have simply said they aren't interested in a non-win10 build.

Instead of doing the research, which I fully realize is an odious task, even for an experienced builder (see above), a pointer to a website like pcpartpicker (which does not list Win7 parts) would be a help.

What's a "POS PSU"?

I'm pretty sure the Adobe software does not multi-thread up to current specs. Nevertheless, a faster CPU with more and probably faster RAM can make a difference in my image file handling speed. Once I have a motherboard, I can easily figure out PSU, USB3, SSD, etc. additions I might want. The cost is not the issue, I just want a fully operable Windows 7 system to replace my 10-year-old one.

Thanks again for continuing this discussion.

It's Windows 10 - not an option no matter how cheap.

You can dual boot or erase Win 10 and install your win 7 on it.
I suggest the HP Elite Desk 800 because the hardware is good, and you can easily install win 7 on it.

That's news to me, when I talked to techs, I was told that there are driver issues with Win10 hardware that prevents running Win7 and/or peripherals.

If you have specific information, please send me a link. When I did a search for that system and Win7 I couldn't find the needed driver/utility files. And the described procedure was not what I'd call easy, even if the driver files where still available.

You can dual boot or erase Win 10 and install your win 7 on it.

It is easier to use skylake for win7.

Plenty of people using coffeelake and newer - but sometimes requires hunting around for drivers. Plenty of people also using the newest amd stuff and win7.

For your purposes, it will be simpler to go for something from the series starting with a 6 . e.g. i7 6700. Or maybe an i5 from that range.

Any computer that has skylake (6th gen) and above was made for Win 10. It doesn't mean you cant install win 7 on some of them.
I do have a skylake (i5 6600K) computer. All you have to do is to add the USB3.x and SATA drivers to the installation drive and install win 7. SIW2 more than any one knows all about installing Win 7 on a computer that was built to use Win 10.

HAHA Just a polite way in saying Piece Of Shit PSU. PSU stands for Power Supply Unit.

If you're interested in going Skylake I perhaps can recommend a motherboard. It might be hard to find that motherboard though. I use an i5 6600k now with Windows 7, but when you install the OS you'll won't have USB support so no keyboard, mouse, etc. You'd either slipstream the driver in the OS install disk or do what I did and put the driver on a CD and use a PS/2 mouse to navigate to the CD drive and install the USB driver.

It really can be a pain to get Windows 7 to work on a newer PC, but it can be done.

No need to make a meal of it. Many mobos have usb2 and/or ps2 ports. For those that don't have those ports, just add drivers to the installation media.

One way is to run this ( it is not necessary to use simplix update pack- if the pack is not present, it simply adds the drivers to the media )
Update your Win 7 installation media

Some people get the premade DEll skylake win7 Pro iso file which can be downloaded via the heidoc tool

In my case, and to my surprise, no USB ports worked unless I installed the driver. So that's why I had to use a PS/2 mouse and navigate to my optical drive to install the USB driver.

Frankk,
If I can interject here I can recommend doing this yourself. I've built several PC's that run Windows 7 since I have several retail licenses and like you, I really didn't want to tackle the last build due to the time that would be involved since I am a little behind on new technology and have to research a lot before I buy then getting Windows 7 to work on newer machines is sometimes a challenge but with SIW2's installation package I was able to put together a new PC for my wife in about 4 hours and that was even time to get over the dread to start the build. With SIW2's package building a Win 7 PC is super easy now. And I would recommend AMD. I am an AMD fanboy.

I answered this comment back near the beginning of the thread: in short, BTDTDWTDIA. Been There, Done That, Don't Want To Do It Again.

I found a builder and ordered a system, the trek is over. For software-related reasons I decided to go with an Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz (multi-threading is of little use).
