SP1 Fails to install with the following CBS errors

Hi,

Tried pretty much everything apart from a format, which is looking like a good option.

The readiness tool produces the following error and no fix ont he net has resolved this issue so far.

Renaming Software Distribution folder - Nope
Microsoft Fix it - Nope
Re registering windows dll files - Nope

Nothing works same old thing and this is a the ISO off the website / WSUS update or a exe file.

Hello!

DO NOT try any solutions which you find on the Internet. They will not work. You need a solution custom made for your computer, and your computer only. Running a fix for someone else may break your computer beyond repair. I shall make you one of these fixes.

Please post your entire C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log.

A lot fo them do work...I currently have 10 machines which fail SP1. All of them seem to have missing or corrupt update files from previous updates. By replacing these files I have managed to get SP1 on a few of the machines some I have yet to try but the one listed above resisits any fix I have come across.

If it comes to it ill re image the machine but I shall post the log as soon as I get chance...

Thanks yeah I have fixed a few myself with these stupid missing corrupt files etc 2 machines are proving a little bit more of a challenge ...

No worries just shout when you need them...but i think i just found a solution....
I copied my files to a poorly laptop and SP1 is now installing.

So by copying my files to that laptop it works .. !! This is test laptop which is suffering but will try it on another to see if the copy from a good laptop to a bad one works properly...

This trick seems to work for other machines I have tried it on...

So if you have a PC with SP1 on it and one where it has failed...copy the files it moans about in the CBS log fromt he good one to the bad one and hey presto it works !

Hello!

Well done, but there is a bit of an issue. Repairing the corruptions is the fix, but the method is wrong. You are also lucky that the corruptions were that easy.

However, I bet that you changed the permissions and ownerships to perform this fix. This is really, really dire. Vista and 7 rely on permissions. Every single one of yours systems is now a timebomb, waiting for catastrophic failure when the next range of hefty updates comes along. I try to stress this to people all the time, but people never beleive me.

I would strongly recommend performing a System Restore now, and I can fix it properly. To prevent damage, the System Update Readiness Tool has built in curative ability for these corruptions. I would have used these safe methods.

For bigger corruptions, there are other methods.

For everyone: Please seek advice, and stick with me, rather than trying to manually fix it yourself.

It is your computer. I cannot force you. I can only encurage. If you want, I can try to help you fix permissions and ownership, but missing one can be unfixable down the road.

The permissions are back to how they were along with the ownership ... Im a MCTS and yes its a nasty fix and system restore didnt actually fix this problem. The update rediness tool didnt fix it either.
I wouldnt say each machine is a timebomb either...if you put it back to how it was you will be fine...just got to remember what you did.

All other updates have gone on fine without any issues.

I have a few more machines to do so..if you have another way then please share...and I will try your way and see what happens

The other guy never replied back to me...so I am unaware of any other way to fix this issue. The way I do it is risky but seeing as I can re image the machine quickly enough its no problem for me..

The Netbook is only 3 weeks old and I have allowed windows to do all the updates it wanted to get it up to date.

Have tried turning off MS Security essentials - starting a new Software Distribution folder, running System Readiness tools with no sucess.

If I try the system readiness tool and generated a log file as per the posting above would someone be able to look at it to see if something obvious is highlighted in it?

Thanks for the reply.

Checked that I do not have the problem integrated drivers.
No other driver downloads offered in Update
Did virus scan - all ok
of the 3 KB files I had one, KB2534366 is for 64 bit, howeer did not have KB2533552 Genuine windows so installed that.
Search does not find checksur.exe so could not run that

Will try to install again in case it was the windows genuine thing and report back.

The install usually completes fine. It fails on restart when configuring so hope it might be the lack of genuine windows tool. Should not be anything to do with normal drivers as they have not been started at that point not even having reached the logon screen.
