I restored my friend's Dell Inspiron N7010 to factory configuration. After running Windows Update for a few days, i saw that SP1 was not showing up to be installed. After some research, I found that there is a known issue with the old Intel video driver - SP1 will not show up with that driver (8.15.10.2104) installed, per a Microsoft document I found. When I went to the Dell website, entered the service tag, it only has that same old driver version available. Doing a search without the service tag, just by model, gives the same result.
When I go to the Intel website and download the generic driver for the Intel Core Processor - Integrated HD Graphics, and try to install it, the computer gives the message "Not validated for this computer - please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer."
Any ideas?
Thanks

It could be that you downloaded the wrong driver, or, Dell modified the device ID of the onboard video so that only their driver will install. A modified ID string is quit common especially if the laptop has dual graphics. You could try uninstalling the Intel video driver if its listed in add remove programs. Then see if SP1 will install. If it does then try reinstalling the Dell supplied driver. Creating a system restore point before you start might be a good idea too.

OK good idea. I will give that I try when I get back in front of his computer.

Thanks
