Anyone else having problems with the SP1 update (KB976932)?
When installing, a code 80200053 shows up and the install
fails.

Using the Windows trouble shooter it 'repairs windows update
components' and all is well in Rivercity until I try it again and
again it fails.

I'm up to date with all the Microsoft updates and none of them
has failed. With the exception of the SP1.

The same occurs with my wife's computer, so I think there is a
hitch in the getalong somewhere. And I don't think it's us.

Anyone else with the above problems? :(

Yes, there seems to be issues with SP1 coming in via Windows Update. I've been reading lots of things on this forum from members having a hard time with it.

I just tried instaling (more to say downloading it first) via the Windows Update and I get the same error. The only update that is actually listed in "Optional Updates" is the "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2488113)" update.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I had the same thing happen.

For me, I simply rebooted the machine. Then tried again with nothing running and it went along fine.

Also you can remove the 1.5-2GB of SP backups if you so choose through DiskCleanup after the installation.

I would also suggest making a system Image before installing SP1, just in case.

My suggestion would be to hold off on this SP1 update and give it a few days. Why the big rush to get it installed? As long as you have all of the other security updates and such you should be all set for the time being!

A post on the Dell Users forum by one of the VIP's noted he had this error problem.

From the user:

everything well, except with 64-bit desktop, it would not download, stopping at 15%, received a 80200053 error, found that revalidating windows 7 fixed the issue and the download was completed and installed
.

Just downloaded the small updates on desktop first, rebooted then did the larger SP1 by itself and all downloaded just fine.
Then did my laptop the same way....small ones first and the SP1 by itself. Have had no problems.
No problems with lengthy restarts on either the desktop or laptop!
Just thought I would add my experience with SP1.

That's the way to go. Install SP1 by itself after you dealt with the other KBs. I did that on 3 systems and had no problem at all.

PS: Had a slow restart at first too. But after that .net optimizer was done (15 to 20 mnutes depending on the system), everything came back to normal.

I was lazy, I downloaded a Windows 7 image pre integrated with SP1 from Technet and installed cleaned. I couldn't be bothered to do my own imaging at the time.

Just finished doing a 32bit machine and all went fine for me, so that is 2 Intel x64 machines and this AMD Quad core with no problems.
All 3 have been regularly updated as well.
