Uninstall the sound module (such as RealTek or IDT) in the Device Manager then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of flakey problems and may take care of yours.

To access the Device Manager, hold the Windows key down and press the Pause/Break key. When the panel comes up the Device Manager can be accessed from the list in the upper left of the panel. In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound module (to highlight it) and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC.

If this does not fix it, download and install the latest sound drivers from HP for your PC.

The status can get corrupted in Windows and the uninstall/reinstall resets everything.

Thanks for the feedback and that it's working. Please mark my answer as the solution or click the icon to add to my reputation. Thanks.
