Specific Keystroke not Working

We have a new Windows 7 machine on which Ctrl + Alt + C doesn't register, al ALL.

When trying to assign that keystroke within an application, MS Word for instance, and we click in the text box that "captures" the keystroke NOTHING happens in the text box. Its almost as if the operating system is intercepting that keystroke before it gets to the apps.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Well I have just assigned Ctrl+Alt+C to Select Current Color and it works fine. What are you trying to assign it to? I'm using Word in Office 2003 though!

Ha, funny you should say Word 2003! That's what i tested in as well. Stupid Word 2010 ribbons!!! )

It didn't matter what we tried to assign it to, nothing at all happened.

When I am trying to help you, please help yourself by answering my questions, I repeat "What are you trying to assign it to?"

It does work. I think you may be missing a point or two as you do not mention the Assign command. Can you give a description of exactly what you do to assign a keystroke in Word and whexactly what you do to test it?

Worth to remember: if a certain key shortcut is already assigned to a certain task, it must first be deleted before assigning a new task to said key shortcut.

One indicator of a previous, existing key shortcut is that Word does not let you to assign it to another task. In other words, are you sure the Ctrl + Alt + C isn't already assigned to a task thus not allowing you to reassign it to a new task?

As stated by Kari; "Worth to remember: if a certain key shortcut is already assigned to a certain task, it must first be deleted before assigning a new task to said key shortcut." It appears this may be the reason you cannot assign a new function to the shortcut.

Sorry, I'll try to clarify, and please know that I do have extensive experience with Word templates and customizing. It also doesn’t matter what Word function I’m trying to assign the keystroke to, I’m getting the same result.

What I should also explain is that I’m not even getting OFF the “Customize Keyboard” menu. While hitting the keystroke on the Customize Keyboard menu nothing goes into the “Press new shortcut key:” box. It’s like Word (or any other app) never even receives the keystroke.

I’m hoping to have time this week to check into the Dell programs that came preloaded, the system management type of stuff, or other things that might be loading at startup. Maybe one of those uses and is intercepting (for lack of a better word) that particular keystroke. It may end up being useless for anyone but Dell users but I’ll post back if I find anything.
