Speculation - But do we NEED CD's / DVD's anymore

Another two cents worth.

I'll have to agree with Nigel, media changes, usually for the better. I've converted all of my music and movies to digital. I still have CD/DVDs but don't use them. They will go the way of the 8Tracks.

Some people still have and use floppy disks, that's fine if it works for them.
Don't know if you can even buy them anymore.

After the first time I installed an OS from a memory stick, my DVD is used to transfer whatever is on them to digital. Yes, a couple of backups are needed for safety.
Won't put a DVD in my next computer.

The music, movie and other industries will work out how to control the copyright aspect.

Let's move on...

Malware

What about malware?
I've never heard of a virus deleting a CD/DVD (as opposed to HDD files).

From a collector's perspective, I'd rather have the physical disks/Albums as opposed to a digital media. With physical media, it’s limited which gives it a high value over its unlimited digital cousin. Sure I have an iPod, and digital forms of music, but it's the physical form that I value most.

As a collector thus far I have over 2500 CD's and about 1000 Albums, small compared to others in this area, but a nice collection nonetheless containing some hard to find or out of print titles, which would bring premium prices if sold.

Space hog no doubt, but it also makes for great a conversation piece.

My two cents.

What's the point of collecting CD's or DVD's their practically worthless.


Were on the verge of having that little thingy in your hand that does everything (phone, media player, TV(virtual reality),etc and just plug it into your console in the car and way to go!
CD's/ DVD's/Bluray/you name it! will all be gone. 10-15 years maybe!

It's likely to be called the iPod.
