Hi,
My PC at work is a phenomenal beast of a rig. These are the specs:
Windows 7 x64 Pro
HP Z800 Workstation
Dual Intel Xeon X5550 Quad Core Processors @ 2.67GHz
Elpida 24GB Triple Channel DDR3 RAM @ 665Mhz (9-9-9-24)
Nvidia Quadros FX4500 512MB
HP branded Motherboard Intel 5520
The real grunt behind this is the hard disks. For the primary data processing and storage areas I have 4 x 500GB Samsung 15,000rpm SAS drives in a RAID0 configuration.
I recently did some tests using a rudimentary DOS batch file I wrote. It creates files of various sizes, and then copies them to the same drive and times how long the copy takes. The output is echo'ed to the display, and I copied the results to Excel, and created the attached charts to get a better picture of how fast these disks are.
What do you think? Have you seen anything faster than this for mechanical disks? What sort of disks and configuration were they?
I've attached the .BAT file, as well as the TIMETHIS.EXE file if anyone is interested in using them to measure their disk speed.
Regards,
Golden
