Firefox won't run any faster using RAM than it does using your HD...the amount of data it reads/writes is a tiny fraction of what the average HD is capable of.

Most of it is cache files, and you can already configure Firefox (via about:config) to use mostly RAM and very little to no disk space for the cache, but that defeats the point of having the cache to begin with.

Plus, it really makes no difference you'll ever notice.





I do, however, wholly support the advice to download more RAM. In fact I'd love to know if anyone's gotten this to work yet.

Running the cache in memory does keep any nasty stuff from residing on one's HDDs however and is gone with a reboot so perhaps from a safety issue it is worthwhile. Can't see the logic of saying that running in RAM has no signiicant benefits since this is precisely what is advocated for most other things - Prefetch etc - have RAM? then use it. I should add that I use the about:config method to use RAM so the RAMdisc as you said is not really required.

There are also a number of tweaks you can do in the FF config and it does speed it up. However I found that these tweaks always seem to cause an issue with some sites. So I always find myself returning to the FF default settings in the end.
