I am struggling to find the reason for a sudden take over by Spell Check in all programs with data input, including Word, Adobe Reader, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Open Office. As soon as I begin typing, spell check opens, even before finishing a word, and will not close until I close it with Task Manager. I have attempted the SFC /SCANNOW admin command (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html) and generated a file attached. I have also tried uploading the System Update Readiness Tool. I have not done a System Restore. I am not a techie, but can follow directions if needed. Please help, if possible. OS=WIN 7 Home Premium 64bit on Asus A53E laptop.

Not an outside spell check program...

I have never downloaded an outside spell check program, this is all happening in the internal existing programs as far as I can tell. So far it has effected Word, Adobe Reader, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Open Office, maybe others I don't use often. I have done a virus scan with Avast, but nothing shows up. It started happening after a Microsoft Update that had about 20 WIN 7 updates in it as I had been traveling and left the laptop behind.

Hello and welcome:

Windows 8/8.1 does have a built-in spell checker, I think. See here:
Spell Checking - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

But I've never heard of a built-in spellchecker with Windows 7.
Someone will correct me if I am wrong about that.

Since you report that the issue affects not just Windows/Office/IE, but also 3rd-party applications (Adobe, Mozilla TB, Open Office), it sure sounds "iffy".
And there are no reports here (at least at this and a few other, busy fora), suggesting it's not a widespread issue or related to Windows Update.

Can you please post a screen shot of what you are seeing?

Thanks,
MM

Sudden change....!

OK, yesterday the spell check of every program I normally use for data entry automatically was coming on as soon as I started typing and wouldn't close without Task Manager. So I had an idea to look in Control Panel Language settings and removed the Spanish keyboard I had added long ago but rarely use. It hadn't been turned on, but was installed. Also, I checked and unchecked all relevant boxes to make sure English was the primary language in all circumstances. Then I shut down for the night. This morning I saw your email and went into each program to take a screen shot. Lo and Behold! Not in any instance (so far) has the problem returned. I hope whatever the glitch was, it is gone for good. Still wish I knew what it was that started it in the first place and whether I can prevent it. Thanks for the responses! If the problem reoccurs, you will certainly know!
