I'm using W7 Home edition on a new Dell laptop. I've downloaded Windows Live Mail (2009). I'm using the UK extended keyboard. I want to be able to spell check in French when I reply to a French friend. I can change the keyboard to a French layout, but that's not what I want (it moves some letters like "a" and "q", and some punctuation around); and even if I do select a French keyboard I don't seem able to get the spell check to work in French. Since my French is not so good it helps to be able to use the PC to correct my spelling - that's what computers are for isn't it ?
Can someone explain how to set it up: I've seen other threads suggesting it is possible, but no explanation of how to do it.
Thanks
Alan

So basically you want your computer to "recognize" that the email is in french, and load a french spell checker then when finished unload and reload an american spell checker?

while i suspect it is possible there would be tons of work involved.

Hi there alanjh this is easily done :)

  1. Open up WLM and hit the ALT key, then go Tools>Options at the top.
  2. Go to the Spelling Tab.
  3. Scroll Down until you find French, click it then click "Install" WLM will download the French Dictionary (this can take a few minutes)
  4. Then click "Set Default"
  5. Click OK
  6. Write your message.
  7. When your done, follow the above steps, but change the default back to your default language,
  8. Enjoy
After you've done this, you'll have the French Dictionary to use whenever you want it. It looks like it has to be set as Default for WLM to recognise it though, I couldn't find an option to "check spelling with French dictionary" I had to set it as the default dictionary

When I hit Tools > Options > Spelling > Language> French> Install, the term "Available" changes to "In queue" and the Install button grays out. And nothing happens. I put the Win 7 CD in, but nothing happens. How do I get it to install?
