Not really.

It's hard to be taught by someone who doesn't know how to spell themselves

That does not amaze me at all. As to a survey they did in New Jersey last year, 35% of the 8th graders can neither read nor write - but I guess they can flip burgers.

I always give them more than enough money to see if they can do it their head or need the computer to figure it out.
They aren't even teaching them the 3 R's:cry::cry:

And that is a sad commentary on the so called "Life Skills" being taught in our government schools. If the computer does not show them the amount of change due, they cannot make change.

I see this in my workplace too. One of my bosses, who is a delightful guy that has a master's degree in psychology, simply cannot spell. A couple of the others are just as bad. Any sign they post, throughout the employee-only areas, is a possible candidate.

The most recent example? A sign that ended with the phrase, "THANKS, MANAGMENT". Forgive the caps....this is why they post so many misspellings, because they insist on using all caps, which does not allow them the use of spell check, which they so desperately need. Thank goodness that the last time the restaurant's menu was revised, that they let me proofread it before they had all the copies printed!

Even worse than all the improper spelling, is the kitchen managers' (two brothers) insistence that you pull things out of the freezer to "un-thaw" them. This grates on me every single time I hear it, but I have given up on trying to correct it. And no, this is not a fast-food place, either.....I might be a little more forgiving of their failings if it was!

I go by this BK frequently because it's close by. It's happened more then a few times, that the the total came to $5.45 or something similar.

Most of the time, if I hand them a $10 and a $1 to get $5 and some change back, the general response is "Oh, you gave me one dollar too much"

There was one time the total equaled $5.30, I handed the person $6 and a nickle so I could get 3 quarters back. The person looked at me really confused and called the manager over.

These stories happen to me several times per week - but interestingly enough only in the US, not in Europe. Maye in the US because there are always those odd amounts due to the sales tax.
E.g. the total is $7.19. So I give the person a $10 bill which she types into the register. In the meantime I found 19 cents that I hand to her (or him). Total confusion from then on and no mathematical explanation can clear up the mystery.

The sales tax on food here is like 9.1%, in addition to any other odd change amounts (such as $0.99 for a burger) and then there is like a 3% credit card charge (if used).
You never get nice even amounts (though I did once).

And also, no, they can't spell. Nor can they get your order right, or understand you (assuming you can understand them).
Though I am glad it is the stupid ones working there, and the smart people are actually doing important stuff (like teaching :p)
