Spoof Windows version to install a program

I'm talking about Vista but I'm also interested in doing the same on Windows 7!
They are probably very similar on both system. Please state which system is your answer for.

I need to install some programs which require Vista without service pack.
I only have a Vista SP2 DVD. I don't have the one which doesn't have them.


But, it's probably just a poorly-programmed version check which thinks Vista SP0 and SP2 are different major Windows versions.
SP2 is supported (you can upgrade to it and program works fine) but setup refuses to install because the version check fails.



Is there a way to spoof Windows version for the time of installing these programs?
To make it look like Windows Vista - no service pack?


It's probably the version the command line shows at line 1 (example: Windows 6.0.0.4143)

Have you tried the compatibility options in the properties of the process executable?
They were created for such a situation.

Yes I tried. It didn't help!
(in fact, there's no Windows Vista - no service pack option, we have XP, Vista sp1, sp2, but not SP0..)
