Just get Avira free edition and you wont need anything else (other than windows own firewall). Avira wont let anything within a mile of your computer. The added bonuses are it's very light on system resources and it scan quickly. You will never need to run a scan though because nothing gets on in the first place, either by browsing or downloading.

Can't help with best spyware because I don't use them (other than Aviras own built in one). I even have defender off.

Malwarebytes. Works great for me in 7.

Seconded. This program is a godsend. Picked up things for me in XP that Spybot/Ad-Aware wouldn't even touch. I haven't used it much in 7, though.

There are some good anti virus apps. with antispyware add ons , but none are perfect.;)

It is a good idea to have a specialized anti-spyware app. in addition to your regular antivirus - even if it has antispyware added on.

I do occasional on-demand scans with Malwarebytes, just for an extra level of safety - in addition to Windows Defender

Ad-aware and Spybot are also well respected.

+1 these are what I use

So you have all three on your computer? Wow, that's paranoid in the xtreme.

Enzo Avira fee edition is all that you will need. Nothing will get close whether your browsing or downloading. It's very light and scans rapidly. I very very rarely run scan and cant remember the last time I did. I also turn windows defender of and just have windows firewall and Avira running.

I have all three installed but not resident. You cannot have too many spyware programs since they all give different results.

Where do you turn off Windows Defender? Windows Security tells me that having two anti spyware program running may slow down my system; I am also running Norton 2009. I can turn off the Norton anti spyware but I would rather turn off the Windows Defender.

Services/Windows Defender - Disable

:D

I did a search for "services" and found it. I disabled Windows Defender and the complaint is gone. I also found another thing I was looking for; administrative tools. Guess I am too used to the Classic view for the Control Panel.

Thanks
Al
