Sr. Citizen Questions Re Google Chrome, etc.

Hello,

Really dumb questions, but will blame it on old-age:

My PC is now set up with Firefox.
This is what is called the "Browser," right ?

And, under it, I have Google to do my searches.
I assume that this is simply called the "Search Engine".

So, what's this Google Chrome, please ?

- If I install it, does it replace Firefox ?
- Should I, in your expert opinions ?
- Pros and cons, etc. ?

And, does Google Chrome "contain" the normal Google search engine functions like I now have?

No, but you can make it the default browser

Both are browsers with similar features

It can be confusing sometimes because if they are both browsers and have similar features why choose one over the other.

Although they have similar features, Fire Fox has been around longer and has more add on's and extensions that increase the functionality. If you are simply performing ocassional browsing of the Internet, checking your yahoo Mail account or any of the other Internet e-mail accounts then the extensions and add on's will not mean much to you. So how then to choose?

It's purely a subjective decision. Try both and see which one appeals to you.

as Yowanvista says it is just another browser. It will not replace Firefox and can be run alongside it. A lot off people, me included, prefer Firefox for some tasks and Chrome for others. In my opinion Chrome is the better browser but that is just my opinion and the new version of Firefox out earlier this week may change that.

I totally agree.

You can install any browser without having to uninstall another so you can in fact sample all 3 major browsers (IE8/9, FireFox, Chrome) and see which one better suits your needs.

My setup is as follows..

• IE9: for simple browsing, emails and forums
• Firefox: for test purposes (if anyone posts here with issues)
• Chrome: for facebook (IE8/9 have serious lag with some of the more advanced apps in facebook, and I don't have great GFX Hardware )

It's all down to personal preference

Another alternative is Opera its a fast browser thats only a 7.2 MB download.
Smallest download compared to Chrome , Firefox ,Safari or IE9 & packs in loads more features as standard.
Very easy to demo it as the installer lets you install as a portable version that contains everything in its own folder , delete the folder & its gone does not make any changes to the registry.
To install as a portable click on options & change the install path to desktop & make new folder . Then change Install for to Stand alone installation USB.
