SSD boot time

after going through SSD perforamance thread, I was wondering if you can post boot time as well so I can see which is actually fast enough.

I'm very much inclined to get Kingston HyperX SSD 120GB.

Before this thread degnerates, I have to ask: Why would you be so concerned with boot times? Honestly, I switched to an SSD, and I couldn't even tell you if my boot times got faster or not. If you are rebooting enough to care about your boot time, you have an issue elsewhere that should be addressed. As long as the system wouldn't take minutes to boot, it shouldn't really be a concern if a system takes 20 seconds, 30 seconds, etc. It will always vary based on all the components you have installed, anyway. No two systems will boot identically, unless all hardware is identical.

If you want an SSD, get one for the boost it gives the OS once it is booted. Don't spend your efforts on boot time.

Exactly, but i don't think many people bother to do that anymore? Seems weird because if i wanted to do this years ago i would have had to check the boot log. (obviously not running windows 7)

Alright, first part of question is solved. What about second one?

Is Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD worth getting as it read/write throughputs of 555 / 510MB/s

Question is whether you have a 6Gb Sata port - because if you only have 3Gb Sata ports, this Kingston SSD is an overkill.

You can measure the 4K transfer speed - maybe you find data on the web. Here is the example of the slower SSD that shows you the difference between maximum speed with large blocks (that is what they specify in the ads) and 4K speed.

I agree with WHS about the 6 gb/s sata port. No reason to spend extra for something you can't benefit from. Saying that, the Kingston has a sandforce controller which have proven to be very good. The only question should be reliability. You can learn some about that by reading user reviews on sellers web sites. In my opinion, the worst performing SSD is better than the best mechanical hard drive providing it meets the reliability question. I have crucial, Intel and OCZ ssds. They are all very good and I would be happy with any of them, and am.
