Hello,
Just bought a new computer and don't want to do anything stupid.
My question is : can I safely move the roaming folder situated in
C:\Users\name\AppData to another drive
because some software, like Filter Forge is putting all the filters in that particular folder.
Thanks.

Are you interested in this because your SSD is too small to hold all of roaming?

Or for some other reason?

Well, like I mentioned above, it has to do with the filters from filter forge.
SSD too small ?
111 GB and for the moment 59,1 free and I did not install all the software I would like to install right now and there is quite a lot.

Maybe it's hidden in your earlier posts, but I still don't know why you'd want to do this--other than "it has to do" with Filter Forge filters.

It's fine if you can't say, won't say, or don't know.

Sorry, I do not understand. I can say but Filter Forge is one of the reasons. I'm totally new to that SSD stuff
and I am a bit concerned to fill it unnecessarily and I don't have a clue what to do to prevent that.
I did read in other forums to disable hibernation and I did, hopefully that there is not "a risk" to do that.
I also did read somewhere that reducing the page file is an option but further reading tells me that it's not a good idea at all, so I left it well alone.
So please enlighten me what to do.
Thanks.

You say you don't understand.

Neither do I.

I asked if you were concerned about your SSD being too small.

You answered with "SSD too small?" and "it has to do with" filters in Filter Forge.

Then your last post implies that you are worried about filling up your SSD and that Filter Forge is "one of the reasons".

What are the other reasons you mention?

I'll infer that you are in fact worried about the SSD being too small.

There's nothing wrong with deleting the hibernation file if you don't use hibernation. It will save you some space. I don't know how much because you haven't filled in system specs.

There's nothing wrong with restricting the size of the page file, but you should not get rid of it entirely. A minimum of 1024 MB and a maximum of 2048 MB is a decent compromise.

Do you have any idea how much space these filters might eventually take up?

Hi again,
I don't know if SSD is too small, it's the first time I have to use it that's all and I'm asking myself a lot of questions and I certainly don't want to do anything wrong.
Restricting the page file, right, how is it done ? maybe I can try to google an answer to that.
Those filters are at least around 450 MB, if I download more, it'll grow.
When I read your answer I suppose it's not really good to move those files, so I won't.
And yes I am worried about filling it too much that's about it.
Regards.

You say you have 59 GB of remaining space.

You say that the filters occupy less than 1/2 GB.

So, I wouldn't worry about it now. It looks like you have a 120 GB SSD. I would not worry until I had used at least 90 or 100 GB. You've used only about 50 GB so far.

Nor would I worry about the page file now.

Thank you so much for your reply.
In the meantime I found the size of the page file, which is huge but probably adapted to the 16,0 GB memory.
Best regards.

Yep. If you have 16 GB of RAM, you will have a big page file. You can easily reduce it if you ever need to.
