I have a fresh install of 7 pro 64b. SSD is 40 gigs. No windows.old folder.

Properties of the windows folder shows 10 gigs, everything else in c:/ is around 200mb or less.

Is this just reading it wrong?
The pagefile isn't setup any differently then what's standardly installed.

No hidden folders, etc.

FIXED: CMD > POWERCFG -H OFF

15D,

Welcome to SevenForums.

Run CleanMgr.exe

Be sure to click on the Clean up system files button and to choose in the subsequently to delete all except for the last system restore point.

:orb: | type %temp% | Enter | Ctrl + A to select all | Ctrl + D to delete the selections

Now all of this is going to give you a little more working room.

Next you want to move your profile folders to a drive with more space on it.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Did you start the install disc from Windows, and do a upgrade that way or ..
Boot from the Install DVD?

I have a 40GB SSD as well, and never seen mine that full from a clean install... :(

At any count following Karlsnooks advice, you may also want to disable the hiberfile to allow for more space as well.

Run command prompt as admin and this command:
powercfg -h off

Also you can delete the sample Music/Pictures/Video etc in the Public folders if you so choose.

hey, thanks for the help. temp had maybe 5-10 mb in it. Definitely not the problem.

This was a clean install from a formatted ssd. There's no way it should be taking up the entire 40 gigs. I installed a few hours ago.

I had it installed for the past few weeks with no problems, but I had to format and now this?

I had run the cleaner as the first thing, and it cleaned maybe a few mb.

I've set it to show hidden folders, and the properties through this last image are correct for the drive. But it shows the drive full when I'm in 'computer'

Is it just reading it wrong?

you selected compression which is no-no for your system drive.

Time for a fresh clean install. There are several tutorials here on making a clean install. I very strongly recommend reading the appropriate tutorial and following the procedure there.

I'm an a+ tech and I used to work for geeksquad, I'm familiar with how to install a fresh install.

Just never came across this before.
I just formatted / deleted the partition and create a new one again to see if there was any difference.
The install just finished and it's showing up with the entire drive FULL again.

Why is it showing the correct amount in properties, but in computer showing it as full?

This will be my 3rd time tonight doing exactly this.
And I've installed windows 100's of times, so this is nothing new to install on a clean partition.

I will try the other link if it doesn't give me a result. Just in the middle of windows installing for the third time though.

Any suggestions as to why it's showing the drive filled after it's formatted though? OR if maybe it's just reading it wrong??? Because the properties are correct as I show in my screencap.

K... so I just hooked my ssd up to another rig as a secondary, wiped the drive through diskpart. Installed a new 7 64b pro on the (absolutely) clean drive.

Now it's still showing up at FULL.

Can someone please tell me if this is just reading it wrong? Because in the properties inside the C:/ it's showing 11gb total.

FFFFFFFUUUUUUU I'm so aggrivated, 4th friggen install.

Does professional TAKE UP 40 gigs? Is it automatically allocating all the rest toward pagefile?

What's going onnnn?

My Computer

OS

How much RAM do you have?

Pagefile will take 1.5X (Usually) of RAM, and the hiberfile usually takes the same space as total RAM installed.

So with 4GB of installed RAM, these 2 together can take up 10GB of space.
Im not saying disable the PF, that would be bad. But, perhaps the hiberfile.

Also, are you disconnecting all drives but the target SSD and running the "Clean" command on the it before creating partitions and formating?

The only other thing I can think of is run an advanced disk cleanup.

Cmd prompt as Admin:

cleanmgr sageset:50 ((Check all boxes))
then ..
cleanmgr sagerun:50

I have never known of anyone who followed those two links I gave to the letter to have any problems.

My ssd is divided into two partitions: one for system and one for data.
The system partition only uses 22 GB and the data partition uses 16 GB.

I used the procedures, precisely, with no "secondary" unit but rather precisely as written.

I have no idea where you are deviating from the procedures given.

16 gigs ram, and yes all drives are disconnected. Trying to install premium right now.
Ran the clean from another computer because I can't run it as the main os obviously. Had taken 15-20 minutes or so.

I had home installed before all this happened and realized that it wasn't allocating the entire 16 gigs of ram, so that's why I decided to format and install pro, thinking that it would be better then premium.

Clean is going to take a long time.

Clean All is writing zeros to each and every byte on the disk.

Carry out the procedure again. This time let the clean all finish.

... I did let the clean all finish. it's a 40gig drive, it had take about 20 minutes.

I'm telling you it was completely formatted through diskpart. There wasn't anything that went wrong with that, it completed and posted that it was done formatting.

If you want to know what is on the disk, you need to do 2 things:

1. Run WinDirStat - that will tell you how much OS and user data is on the SSD
2. Run vssadmin list shadowstorage in elevated command prompt - that will tell you how much space the restore points take (the Allocated number)

Besides: check the alignment: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/113967-ssd-alignment.html?ltr=S

If you follow the procedure, as it is written, you will not be using a "secondary". You will not need a secondary. You will be formatting, you will be doing everything on the computer which will be receiving Win 7.

Win + Pause/Break | System Protection | Configure button | will show both the current usage and the max usage for system restore points.

Win 7 install, if he does things as the writeup says, handles the alignment.

His problem is much bigger. This is petty cash compared to the billions that are in excess of any normal, correct installation.
