During a Windows session my backup SSD Hard drive temporarily disappeared (not visible in explorer nor accessible) but reappeared after shutting down computer and restarting. Checkdisk shows no problems. Drive is 3 years old. This never happened before. Does it suggest the drive is about to fail or just something that is OK to live with.

assuming its on a sata cable then yes, this symptom can mean its failing. If for some reason its usb, it can be a bad connection caused by a usb cable or a bad usb port
