Absolutely yes! Its such a big difference I don't think I could ever go back....

I have the OCZ Vertex2 60GB. Here in Aus I paid $180 for it, but in the US it will be cheaper. Take a look here to see the speed people are getting relative to spinner HDD's:

I get it now...I'm not the type to appreciate a small change in performance. But, I am the type to appreciate a significant step in performance. So, i'll leave the 'big boys' to it...

Got a simple little 40GB Intel SSD a few months back. Put my OS on it and WOW!
WEI went from 5.9 to 7.4
Transfer rate went from somewhere around 94MB/s to 231MB/s.
Like Golden, I wouldn't go back.
BIOS takes longer to get going than Windows! I mean, it's a matter of seconds from the swirly Windows logo to desktop- again, I say WOW!
It's such a small drive that I haven't put any programs on it but I can imagine what it would be like if I had another drive for them.
Aw well, nothing wrong with dreaming, is there?
All I want to do right now is save up enough money to buy more!

so what will an ssd do for you? faster boots, and a snappy responsive operating system with faster app loading. even big apps like photoshop open in two or three seconds. it isn't just 'five minutes over eight hours' - it's every single time your computer reads or writes to the drive. random access time is phenomenally low.
i don't think anyone with an ssd will ever go back to a spinner.
but feel free to not believe me, and put it all down to hype if you prefer.

I have a 60gig ssd for my c boot drive and a 256gig ssd for my d and I really am spoiled when I have to help someone with their machine and the old physical platter disks. But not cheap. the 256gig was around $500
but they should really be coming down in price soon. The best improvement is in your boot disk as long as you have another drive for your data and programs.

If you are not in a hurry - the price will come down.
If you are going to buy an new pc in the next 6-12 mths - it will likely have an ssd as well as a larger regular HD anyway. Quite a few already have that setup. USB 3.0 ports as well .
Might think of putting that 150-200$ towards the new machine - instead of getting a ssd now.

buying a SSD was probably the best investment i ever made. my boot time in Windows went from minutes to about 13 seconds. I load most of my games in about the same time. Firefox loads the millisecond after I click on the icon. Trust me, this isn't an upgrade you want to pass up.
