So i built a mediacenter PC so i may be able to backup my own dvd's and bluray, and use it so i may stream through Plex. Everything has been running great until i couple of days ago where the drive has been so slow it is unsuable, only when it is writing something to the HDD.

The SSD is a PNY 128GB drive, researching on the topic, it turns out it could be that the SSD is not trimming, i checked via windows and it says it is enabled.

Here is what i have been doing on the PC, been remuxing MKV's and transcoding large files from 25GB/50GB blurays to ~10GB. I also found out that the SSD in bios was set to IDE, i will be setting to AHCI when i fix the problem, and then install windows again.

First thing that comes to mind mate is have you switched off defragging? I know this may sound ruddy obvious but it might have been missed.

You could try this too SSDlife Free Download - Softpedia

Even if Trim would not work, you would not see such a degradation. I have used SSDs with Vista that does not support Trim and they were quite fast. The IDE setting is also not the cause for such a dramatic situation. IDE degrades only a little.

I would say the SSD controller is bust. I would send it to PNY and have them deal with it. I had a similar situation with a 2.5 year old Mushkin. They replaced it withing 24 hours. But that was the only incident I ever had with my 8 SSDs - and the oldest two are from 2008.

Crucial is a good choice. I have three although I prefer my Mushkins. They are really fast and I know the company stands behind their products.

Yes, the crucial is crazy fast, and I have heard so many great things in the Samsung's, but the crucial was at a better price.

Yep well if it is speed you are after the I have a SanDisk Extreme in my old Toshiba and it is super fast I just get Samsung's because they are cheaper and also improved with the V-NAND structure they are quicker than the older 840's and EVO's Samsung Semiconductors Global Site and I reckon all this discussion on SSD's is really a bit about bragging rights because as long as my drives air quick I really couldn't give a tinkers cuss.
I just think we are lucky we have this new tech stuff after putting up with the older spinners (and still do eh?):)
