SSD Issues with Windows Install? Drive Space wrong?

Hi everyone.

I did a new install of Windows yesterday and installed only what I really needed. The SSD is 120GB, but is 111GB for obvious reasons. Well, I almost ran out of space yesterday and I have no idea out.

If I highlight all of my folders on the drive and check the properties it states that 37.6GB is being used in them. WHen I go to My Computer, the drive states that only 33.4GB is available. There is 40GB that is being used, but not being shown anywhere. How would a new install and all folders being about 40GB somehow double what's being used? What would I look into to see what's going on? Thanks in advance!

Hmmm.....20 gigs of RAM.

That implies a 20 gig hibernation file if I recall correctly.

Do you use hibernation?

I usually use Sleep for my desktop and hibernate for my laptop.

I'll check out spacesniffer and see what I find.

Found out there is a 20GB pagefile and a 15GB hibernation file...

Is the Pagefile supposed to be that big? I will probably have to move it to a different drive. How do I get rid of the hibernation file?

1. A 2GB of pagefile is ample for your system
2. Run this command to get rid of the hiberfile: powercfg -h off
3. Check the allocated size of your shadowstorage. The command is: vssadmin list shadowstorage

Well, I put the pagefile on another drive, but also let my ssd have a 1-2GB one as well. Turned off hibernation as well. Doing these got my lost space back! Thanks again guys. Really glad I asked here!
