SSD Performance reduced after BIOS update.

Hello,

Week ago I bought new SSD drive. (OCZ Agility 3, 2.15 firmware)
I made fresh install of OS, newest drivers etc.
SSD and my system was working very well but I was disapointed to my SSD-benchmark results. Well I tried to increase performance by updating my motherboard bios. Bios update succeed but it didnt really increase performance of my ssd, new bios reduced writing performance notable. (MOBO = Asus m4a87td/usb, bios v.2001) AHCI is on.

What with that 103424? Shouldnt it be 1024? Previous score over 400 points, now just 300. (disappeared in picture)

Also noticed another problem. I can't boot my comp if I have external drive plugged in.
I just can't change my 1st device boot to agility drive in bios because it's not in the list of boot devices. Well I unplug external drive and its working. Also thought that bios update would fix it but it didnt.

Your numbers are lower than most, but I don't know if it would be noticed in real life as opposed to a benchmark.

I think that 103424 is a reference to alignment. If it's evenly divisible by 4, it should be OK--and it is.

Not sure about the BIOS/external drive issue. Was the external connected when you did the clean install to the SSD?

One way or another, I'd make sure all boot files were on the SSD and that it appeared in the BIOS and was bootable, regardless of whether the external was plugged in.

It never comes out to something even. The missing space is what was consumed by the file table during formatting.

It wasnt plugged in while I was installing OS

If you can boot with no other drive connected, that means your boot files are on the SSD, as you would want.

But I'm not sure why plugging in an external should keep you from booting.

And it is VERY strange that you can boot from the SSD but it is NOT shown in the BIOS list of boot devices.

Is the SSD shown as Disc 0 in Windows Disk Management?

Post a picture of Windows Disk Management if possible.

It's there when my external isn't plugged in but disappear if my external drive is plugged in. Also my hdd disappears, only WD external, Dvd drive and some removable thing.

It's shown as Disc 1.

If I read that correctly, C is shown as primary, boot, crash dump, page file.

System reserved is primary, active, and system.

D is primary.

F is the external and also is primary.

Hmmmm. I don't see anything wrong at first glance.

Almost default only changed some settings, like ahci is enabled.
I enabled achi after OS was installed, might it cause issues like this?
Anyway achi is enabled correctly, made change in registry, booted pc and enabled ahci. I had this issue with the old BIOS too. Should i try default settings? Also with IDE mode?

If you enabled AHCI in the OS first and then in the BIOS, there should be no problem. But I would try IDE for a test anyhow.

I frankly have no idea why the SSD is not seen in the BIOS if the external is connected.

As a first troubleshooting step, I would disconnect the external, set BIOS to defaults, and then look at all possibly BIOS settings that may have an effect on this.

What is the history of this external drive? Has it ever had an OS of any type on it or has it always been a data drive?

Do you get the same behavior if you connect the external to another port?

Do you get the same behavior if you connect the SSD to port 0?

Strange, I changed ahci to ide mode and its booting to windows normally with external hdd plugged in...
soz its just because of ahci mode. It doesnt mind but sometimes its pisses me off cuz i always forget to unplug my external before boot. Any ideas to fix it?

Well, the quick solution is to leave it in IDE. The performance difference is minimal and you will probably not notice it. Some spinning disks just do not work with AHCI and when the BIOS checks the devices it probably kicks you out.
