Hello,
I changed my HDD drive to SSD (Crucial M4 128 GB).
I found a lot of informations on several sites, that advise to, for example:
- disable search service
- disable page file
- disable prefetcher service
- disbale system protection
- turn off write-cache in device manager
and a lot of other tips.

Which of these are good ideas? What should I do to achieve best performance and disk "vitality"?

One of our forum tutorials covers such things.> http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/149969-ssd-install-transfer-operating-system.html

Look for this heading> Settings after the OS transfer

Hybernation/Hyberfil and Disk Defragmenter are the only things you need to turn off.
On my Intel 320 120GB that is all I turned off and all has been working fine for the past 3 months.

As explained in the tutorial some are also turning off Superfetch.
Mine works better with it on as suggested in the tutorial.
Most of us try it both ways.
My web pages using IE-9 and Chrome load faster with it on.
So it is a matter of which works better for you.
You may notice no difference.

The tutorial also covers preparing the SSD and setting alignment.

I have an Intel SSD in my system, as well as several SATA HD's...

I keep the search service but disable the "Allow files on this drive to be indexed" - I keep as much stuff on the mechanical drives like MP3s, movies, and games that can be run directly.

I do not disable page file and I keep it on the SSD - there are some programs that use the page file and most of the time the page file is used, it is read from which is the forte of the SSD.

I do not disable prefetcher service, because it helps with the programs and files that are on my hard drives.

I do disbale system protection and hiberation (run Command Program elevated and execute "powercfg -h OFF") because its space I can recover. Also because of the way my system is setup, if I want to reformat and reinstall my OS its very easy to do - I keep all my files and save games on my larger HDs and only run the OS and what needs to be installed on the much smaller SSD.

I would only turn off write-cache in device manager for the SSD if you either have a setup similar to mine where the bulk of your important files are on other drives or you have an UPS just in case you lose power. I do not change that on any of my HDs.

I would disable the built in defrag, both by disabling the service and the task in the program, and install a third party one that recognizes the SSD like O&O Defrag or PerfectDisk.

Other than those, I don't tweak my system very much. Windows 7 runs very well out of the box and needs very little tweaking. If you did a clean install of the OS directly to the SSD then the partitions should be aligned correctly as the OS install is SSD aware and does what it needs to do.

Hello lukasamd, I do very few tweeks to my SSDs. You can read several articles where they recommend to tweek the SSD to death. I make sure defrag is turned off, delete Hibernate and that is about all. I move all of my user files to a regular hard drive and use the SSD for the OS and apps. I leave the page file on the SSD, but reduce the size, as I have 8GB of ram. Other than that, I do no other tweeks. I have 4 SSDs and they all run quite well with that setup.
