SSD Tweaker Warning

A lot of people use SSD Tweaker to optimize their new SSD. I've just discovered a nasty little ploy the program uses to get users to pay for the Pro version. Every time the app is run it enables hibernate on the system.



For those that use this app, check for yourself. Run the app. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings. Click "Change advanced power settings". Under "Sleep" you'll see "Hibernate after".

Close SSD Tweaker

Open an elevated Command Prompt. type in: powercfg -h off

Check your Power Options again and "Hibernate after" is no longer there.

Run SSD Tweaker again. Check Power Options and "Hibernate after" is back again.

Software vendors that resort to these kind of tactics to make a few bucks need to be exposed

Thanks tw33k, I've never used it, but that does not sound like much of an SSD tweek to me. At least, not a good one.

It doesn't do anything you can't do manually with a few clicks but it is used by a lot of people. I used it a couple times way back when I got my first SSD. Programming it to switch hibernation on so people spend 10 bucks for the "Pro" version is a dirty trick

I agree 100%. I never used it because I do very few tweeks to mine. But, turning off hibernate is one that I do. A lot of people don't know what they should or shouldn't do, so that is a dirty trick.

The same holds true for many Reg Scanners, Driver Agents and other "Fix-it" utilities. They feed off the folks that know just enough to think they need it.
