I have a ThinkPad with a Crucial SSD primary drive. I am also thinking of using my ultrabay (optical drive pops out) as a backup using a WD regular hard drive.

I noticed when using these features on my Win7 64bit machine, it sometimes freezes up. But if I pop out the ultrabay with the WD in it and insert back my optical drive...it's fine.

Any ideas?

Thank you all!

Might be worth studying this article in case you have a compatability issue. Have no experience of your particular set up though.
